Prophecy is not the same thing as fortune telling.
I dare say that most people don't realize that. They tend to conflate the two things more than not.
Fortune telling is like telling someone things in advance that the seer just really has no earthly way to know in advance.
But in most cases you can be prophetic just by paying attention to the details, using history and logic as a guide.
I suggest you go read the whole post that tells more about these two photos:
An excerpt from the site:
In 1860, he was living in Norborne. He wrote to Lincoln and received an appointment as Republican Precinct Committee Man. He placed Lincoln’s name on the 1860 ballot. All of Natty’s neighbors were Southern sympathizers. He had been talking about electing Lincoln for president in town. One morning at about 2 or 3 a.m. a neighbor rode up and told Natty not to light any lights. The neighbor wanted to warn him that his neighbors were planning to murder him and if he wanted to live he should be on his way.
On another side of the above pictured headstone, he wanted to leave behind an enduring message:
Hat tip to Morgan at House of Eratosthenes.
"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority ... the Constitution was made to guard against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." - Noah Webster
"There is no worse tyranny than forcing a man to pay for what he does not want just because you think it would be good for him."
-- Robert A. Heinlein

Another Dream Girl
Never stop dreaming.
Of course, at my age, and given my current location, that's just about all I can do. It just warms my heart to see a video like this. To know that there are women like this around. Beautiful, sexy, and very, very intelligent.
Please, God, let me have a girl like this:
Shout out to Morgan at House of Eratosthenes. Morgan, you make me so damned jealous for finding and posting such awesome stuff like this before me. But, that's why your blog is so much more successful than mine, you freaking blogmaster.

Good Example
I got the following from Grouchy Old Cripple in Atlanta. It's a very simple object lesson.
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism would work, and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich – a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan. All grades would be averaged, and everyone would receive the same grade – so no one would have to fail, but no one would be able to receive an A."
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride, too, so they studied far less. The second test average was a D. No one was happy.
When the 3rd test finally rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased – but bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would agree to study for the benefit of anyone or everyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor explained to them that socialism would also ultimately fail for exactly the same reason – because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when someone (government) takes the reward away, no one will try or care enough to strive to succeed.
Couldn't be any simpler than that.
Remember, there IS a test coming up, we can't afford to fail in 2012.
Thomas Sowell once said sumpin' like socialism has a record of failure that is so obvious only a liberal could miss it.
Thanks, Denny. We need to keep making this point every chance we get.
UPDATE: I like this video version even better:

We've Got To Stop Rudolf McGillicuddy
Who is Rudolf McGillicuddy you ask? I'm not sure.
But let's say that he might be running for president of the United States in the near future.
A lot of people don't like him for some reason or other. He's got no real chance of winning. He demonstrates that he has a firm grasp of the issues and is a fast learner, but he talks with an irritating nasally kind of voice.
He has no gravitas or real relevance in the world of politics. So, there's just no way in hell he could get elected as president.
He has no real skeletons in his closet. He basically speaks his mind and speaks the truth, and seems to share a lot of the same values as people who live in fly-over country. It would be stupid for his party to back him to run for president of the United States because he would surely lose to Barak Obama.
Therefore, I am calling on all of you people out there to help investigate this guy. Help read all of his emails for the last five years. Go through his garbage. Yes, I mean literally. Camp outside his house and collect the bags and look through them and see if he's got any incriminating evidence that might show that he's not qualified to run for president.
Once we accomplish this, we need to then move to expose the Easter Bunny for being the fraud that he is. We need to make sure that voters are aware that the Easter Bunny does not actually lay colored eggs and hide them for children to find.
We at the ComPost Files are not sure whether or not the Easter Bunny is considering a run for the presidency of the United States, but we feel that it's best we not take any chances.

No Surprise Here
I've known this for over fifteen years, but it's nice to have someone with the expertise and the curriculum vitae to prove it.

Best Statement #1 for 2011
Via the comment section from House of Eratosthenes:
“The Left is more than ruthless, they are evil. They seek to rule, not by persuasion or honest debate, but by any means necessary. They revel in slander, character assassination and violence. They are steeped in hatred for all who oppose them. They seek to create and hold a monopoly on news media and editorial opinion; they support voter fraud and stolen elections; they prosecute political opponents on trumped-up charges in kangaroo courts. They have raised “the politics of personal destruction” to a high art form. Fairness, civility and common decency are unknown to them. I do not see the American Left as fellow citizens, I see them as sworn enemies for whom I feel little or no commonality or fraternity.
The Left has, however, finally convinced me of the truth of one of their key precepts: Politics is war by other means. They proved that in their orgy of hate and slander following the Arizona shootings. I shall not forget again.”
I’m fresh out of mercy."
That's right.

A Form of Sacrifice
No, this post has absolutely nothing to do with religion.
This post was prompted by a post I read over at Questions and Observations. The post is titled "The major tasks for the incoming GOP House." It might be helpful for you to go read the brief post before continuing on here, but I trust what I have to say can stand on its own.
Before I go on, I need to stop and define who I'm talking to. Conservative voters. All of my instruction and cajoling is directed at you. If you are a leftist drone or someone who has given up on voting, you are welcome to stay, but I can't imagine why.
We the people who are not going to Washington to legislate have this terrible habit of merely showing up at the polls, holding our noses and voting for the lesser of two or three evils, and then doing little or nothing beyond that, other than complaining loudly about how the GOP sucks, and even then, we only do it with others who think the way we do. While at parties or church or any other social setting, with rare exceptions, we will smile and nod and keep to safe topics of conversation for fear of getting that wilting look or sharp elbow from a spouse who doesn't want to risk being thought of badly by anybody in the room.
It has been my experience that the leftist drones and such have no qualms about speaking up at parties. I can't count the number of times I've experienced this personally. I was married to a government school teacher for 21 years and saw it a lot, and most of the time I let her reign me in, and when I didn't "heel" I typically paid for my indiscretion for days afterward. I even remember attending a wedding shower where there was a woman that I had once considered a friend, the wife of an Episcopal priest. This was near the end of Bill Clinton's second term, when it was well established that the man was a womanizer, a rapist, and a pathological liar, and yet here was this woman talking about how great a man he was. Three people who knew me well immediately turned in my direction, I presume to see if I was about to explode. Because it was a wedding shower, and out of respect for the guests of honor, I simply left the room. I was told later that the mother of the bride made it clear she didn't want to hear Bill Clinton's name mentioned again.
There is a time and place for engaging in political debate, but I don't go looking for it where it doesn't belong. Now that we are over the cliff and dropping into the pit of hell known as socialism, the time for showing polite deference to people like my former friend is now well past. Of course I have to admit that I've moved up into the mountains and so my exposure to such people in person is limited. When we go to the feed store or such places as are frequented by folks who cherish freedom and self-sufficiency, it's doubtful that we are going to encounter those who are champions of the involuntary collective. But if it happens, I will NOT be quiet. Most of the people that I share DNA with really won't have anything to do with me for that reason.
How many of you know that the revolution that brought about this once great republic was really only supported by about a third of the population or less? How many know that Benjamin Franklin saw his own son deported to England after the war for being a loyalist to the British crown? Don't you think there was much anguish and tears in that relationship? I can't see how any decent father would find any pleasure in being so estranged by his own son.
If there is to be any hope left that we can still live in a free republic, enjoying individual liberty under a rule of constitutional law rather than the whims of a ruling political elite, those of us who claim to be conservators of the principles that this country was founded on are going to have to shed our desire to be liked by those who would go along with a socialist agenda. We are going to have to speak up. We are going to have to learn to argue and debate and point out the flaws of the collectivist voodoo ideology that insists that a man-made Utopia can be created.
Don't you wait for the Rand Pauls and Marco Rubios to make the case for truth in the media. You get in the fray. Obama instructed his myrmidons to get in the faces of "our enemies." Well, let's take them on where were we can't be edited like so much video on TV. Ask your left leaning friends and family who still seem to have a couple of brain cells to rub together, why they think the methods and ideologies that created the conditions in North Korea, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Venezuela, Spain, and Greece will somehow magically work here.
Don't expect incoming Speaker Boehner to use his position to champion true conservatism. He's already proven that isn't going to happen by how he handled the tax deal he did with Obama. Boehner is just more of the same, lame, ostensibly loyal opposition to the hard left communist democrats. Boehner believes that if he just seems to throw an occasional bone in the direction of the majority of GOP voters, they'll quiet down and go back to watching football or American Idol or whatever. And I fear he may be right.
It isn't just about negative harping either. The new guys that got elected by conservatives need to hear from you as well, because the media is going to constantly demagogue the issues as if to tell them they were wrong about why they got elected. Let them know when they are getting it right.

You Can't Eat That!
Ve vill tell you vaht you can eat, and ven you can eat it. (German accents don't translate well in typing)
The Federal government can't just be satisfied to be able to dictate what lightbulbs you use, what kind of toilet you can have, what kind of car you can drive, what kind of job you can have. Oh no. Now they are going to dictate what food is available to you, and how much, which in turn will naturally cause the cost to go up dramatically.
As if the so-called "Health Care" bill wasn't scary enough, which already passed by a purely Democrat vote - a first in history - and the threat of "Cap and Trade" waiting in the wings isn't enough to make you want to flee to some South American banana republic in order get more freedom, now the U.S. Senate is debating passage of a bill that will empower a bureaucracy of unelected, faceless thugs to decide what food you can grow yourself or trade with other Americans. This is Senate Bill 510, and it is another breathtaking assault on freedom.
And while there are 14 Republicans who voted to allow debate on this bill, most of whom did so for the appearance of "bipartisanship," they probably haven't got a clue what's really in the bill. I've been sending back letters and mailings from the RNC for over 15 years with replies telling them that they are nothing more than lack-luster, phony opposition to the Socialist Democrat party. I've often said that the only difference between the Democrats and Republicans is that the Republicans want to drive us over the cliff at a mere 20 miles an hour, while the Democrats want to get us there at 90.
This S 510 bill is outrageous in it's hubris and arrogance. Par for the course for Democrats. They insist on controlling every aspect of your life, "for your own good," whether you like it or not. Grow your own food? We can't have that! Buy organic, locally grown food that might not be licensed by Monsanto? Are you insane?
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."
- William Pitt
"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."
- Daniel Webster
"We are the Federal Government, and we're here to help you. . . . Well, unless of course, there's a minnow or a rat or a worm or something endangered, then you are on your own. Or unless of course, it interferes with our desire to control the population and enrich ourselves and those we deem worthy. You see, you are too stupid to know what's good for you. We created the FDA in order to test the safety and efficacy of drugs that you should be taking, and you people who think that you should be free to use foods and herbs to treat or cure your own conditions, well, that's just crazy, and you need to be stopped."
Yeah, Republicans have their faults. Some of them have been just as corrupt as anybody else. But in the last thirty years, as I have observed with my own eyes, it has consistently been the Democrats who lead the way in imposing the most blatantly un-constitutional, dictatorial, totalitarian, statist legislation. Always in the name of "the greater good." It's like we are living the novels "Animal Farm" and "Atlas Shrugs" all rolled into one.
Look into this bill, S510. Ask your Democrat friends what they think about it. Ask them how they can defend such stuff. Imagine your home being raided by USDA agents with guns because you didn't first get a license and get inspected before you canned your own vegetables that you grew in your own yard.
It used to be we were in the process of this great republic dying the death of a thousand little cuts with razor blades. Now the long knives have come out. What are you prepared to do?
